‘Ombre’ chair

W440 X D510 X H630 cm

The ‘Ombre’ Chair was designed by Charlotte Perriand in 1954, from a single sheet of plywood, cut, folded and curved to evoke the Japanese origami tradition.

This chair was first shown in 1953, its slim-line seat being an absolute first. Stackable, light, and functional, the Ombre chair is the perfect synthesis of gesture, form, and technology, expressing to perfection Perriand’s design ethos.

Our piece is special order manufactured by Hardware, Japan for Ishimoto Osamu. Very thin – 14 mm (close to the original intention of Perriand – 10 mm – and far thiner than most recent one’s from Tendo or Cassina).

Dated ‘1982.9.26’ and japanese inscription [Perriand Ishimoto] under the seat
